Studio T300 x Bajeskwartier
Design studio T300
Inspired by the former Bijlmerbajes prison, my partners and I founded a venture creating high-end furniture from its materials. After presenting our concept to AM, a subsidiary of BAM Group, I became Art Director at Studio T300. My role involves conceptualizing, communicating, and designing our products, transforming ideas into technical drawings. Balancing aesthetics and functionality, especially with reclaimed materials like hardened steel and hardwood, is a key challenge in maintaining the design's integrity during production.

Designing the Reframed series
For the Reframed series, our design studio blends sustainability and storytelling in high-end furniture for public spaces. Inspired by the Bijlmerbajes prison, Reframed aims to redefine sustainable design thinking. We introduce these innovative designs to Bajeskartier, highlighting its historical significance with a focus on sustainability and design principles.
Reverse
The Reverse table features a 270 kg cell door as its primary material. Its base is made out of original prison bars, positioning the tabletop at a 30-degree angle to highlight architectural principles. The original cell door tabletop is restored and coated with epoxy for durability, preserving its authentic colors while integrating modern elements for a sophisticated, contemporary look.
"Our aim is to redefine spaces and perspectives through refined designs, grounded in sustainability and storytelling."
Reframe
The Reframed table is made out of a sustainable Afzelia hardwood tabletop sourced from the former prison's gym floors. The wood maintains the natural hues while incorporating the original lines with contemporary refinements. Finished in a rich deep blue, it achieves a harmonious balance of functionality and elegance within the Reframed collection.
Reveal
The Reveal table features a steel base, crafted from prison bars and finished in deep blue. The top frame supports a hardened glass surface, making the framework clearly visible from every angle. Designed as an accent table for public spaces, the Reveal seamlessly blends practicality and style within the series.
AM Project Bajeskwartier
Following the presentation of our prototypes in late 2023, we discussed with the project developer to expand the project, supplying tables for public spaces in the Bajeskwartier. This opportunity aligns with our vision of circularity and sustainability, aiming to return iconic objects to their place of origin.
